What we do
This laboratory acts in the research and development in the Bioinformatics area.
Bioinformatics is a newly emerging interdisciplinary research area which may be
defined as the interface between biological and computational sciences.
The lab is structured to achieve four main objectives:
1. Database and system development to support the genomic and proteomic projects (sequence storage, search and analysis).
2. Research, development and services in the area of functional modelling, molecular dynamics and prediction of 3D protein structures.
3. Research, development and solutions of bioinformatics new tools.
4. Support, training and consulting in the bioinformatics field to the researchers working in the genomic and proteomic area.
Who we are
The laboratory is a group of five people. Four researchers coming from the biological area;
one researcher from computer science area and one technician from the computer science area.
Natalia F. Martins, PhD.(Group leader; Genomic analysis; molecular modelling)
Felipe Rodrigues da Silva, PhD.(Genomic analysis; Bioinformatics)
Georgios Pappas, PhD.(Genomic analysis; Bioinformatics)
Marcos Mota Costa, PhD. (Bioinformatics; Distributed Object; Evolutionary Computing)
Orzenil Bonfim da Silva Junior, Msc.(Chemistry, Bioinformatics,
Quantitative methods)
Roberto Togawa, PhD.(Bioinformatics; System manager; Membrane proteins; Web administrator)
